March of the Machines
Technology is making our lives simpler, and helping industry to be more efficient, but is it at the cost of our jobs?
Everyone thinks about "what they want to be when they grow up". Do you have to take another look at what you've planned, or start thinking of a new career, because of advances in technology? If you think about it, it's a good thing that we've rolled out the ACP program, because it's important to be aware of what your talents, skill and abilities are, and how they align with what's waiting out there in the world.
What is the job market going to look like when you look for that first job?
Discuss this idea. I've just given you a couple of questions to get the thought process going.
60 Minutes: "March of the Machines"

The job market is going to change from now then when I am looking for my job. It will look like robots doing your work while you can either run a business, or even operating on humans is starting to have robots do their job for them. Soon enough you will not need humans for the simple things like amazon with getting their product across the warehouse. The job market will go down in the near future, the only jobs that would be available are for technology to keep up with making the robots and etc.
ReplyDeleteI think you're right. The job industry will decrease and the unemployment may get worse, but there will be a higher need for people to maintain and make the robots and people will even start to create newer and more efficient robots for other tasks. It'll just keep developing until we find some kind of limit.
Deletei agree because i think the future is robots and that humans wont be needed for most jobs.
DeleteI agree, the job industry will decrease, everyone is saying there will be a need of people to build or run the robots and stuff but what if people don't want to go into that career, then what would we do?
DeleteI agree, but i also think it will be a while from now.
DeleteYour right about how robots will take over a lot of jobs. Also into the future the employment rate will decrese
DeleteI agree, the danger of a decreasing job market is imminent, lower class peoples will struggle to be employed, and so its possible that struggling youths will not get the chance to seek higher education because of lacking funds.
Deletei agree Brooke, the future is robot and there will be no use for humans in the job industry anymore.
DeleteI agree Brooke. Many things in the job markets will be different. Technology is going to keep growing and us humans will be screwed.
DeleteYou are right, the job market is going to change.
DeleteWith our sudden race to be the best with new tech, I believe we're going to get ahead of ourselves. Robots are finding their way into our work places and and even our homes. Some homes are even run by a tech system. They're spending a lot of money into something that could also take our jobs from us. And something that we should be concerned about is that we put ourselves in the hands of these robots, and then what? What if it malfunctions or they break? There are some solutions to those problems as well as good things to come as well. We could see more industry in the US and decrease our imports from other countries. They also make tactile procedures, such as surgeries, much easier to complete. I believe the future of technology and robots will continue to rise.
ReplyDeletei agree with you because i see robots and all this technology is going to be huge in the future. But i think that robots should be used for certain jobs, definitely not surgery and like doctor stuff because it could malfunction and possibly hurt someone bad.
DeleteRobots might malfunction and make an issue, but it is just something that someone would have to code and it would be fixed. They have less errors than humans.
DeleteI agree with you but I think that some jobs are meant for people like working with people including medicine and important surgeries. We still have a while before robots become more into the future.
DeleteI agree, robots might have a malfunction that could be fixed. I also think people who make the robots might not want to anymore.
DeleteThis is a good statement and i agree with a lot of it. I also think that the robots will take over the job industry and leave everyone out of work. But i don't think robots should be used at all, they're pointless and can cause damage in so many ways.I think it's too risky and that we need to take a step back on this whole technology thing.
DeleteI think this is going to hurt them in the start huge. Once companies release all the people and the robots don't work for some reason they are going to have big problems.
DeleteI think the job market is going to change a lot from now to when i'm looking for a job. The job market will be robots operating most jobs. The future are robots and the and i think that the only jobs for humans will be making the robots and controlling what the robots do.
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't think it will go that far, but who knows it could.
DeleteI agree I think that the only jobs available in the possible future of robots will most likely include building of robots or people having to manage the robots.
DeleteYour right about people making robots will be a job. As the video said the robots will take over alot of jobs but they will also create new jobs by mantaining them.
DeleteI hope it doesn't go that far because I'd rather not build robots the rest of my life
DeleteI see that as a possible future, as robots are a cheaper alternative that don't need worker rights. I expect to maintain an environment where people are needed for blue collar jobs, regulations on machines will need to be put in place.
DeleteYes, robots will take over the industry and humans will loose quite a few jobs because of it.
DeleteI doubt that it will go that far but i guess theres always a possibility.
Deletei agree with you layla because theres all ways possibilities that if robots dont work out they might explode
DeleteI think the robots will go farther than you think. It is a good thing and a bad thing to have them.
DeleteWell I think having robots can be good and bad. Like right now there is a lot of people who don't work or just don't want to work, so I think it is good to have robots on that end, but at the same time for the people who actually want a job or need a job won't probably be able to get one because of robots taking over. Also if robots were our future there could be many mistakes made by them, and one malfunction could wreck a whole work line. When I am going to be my first real job after college I think that things will be way different and robots will have a lot of control which is scary to me. The unemployment rate will go way up.
ReplyDeletei agree, robots may help a lot and make jobs easier but they could be dangerous and i don't think that people think about that. they could malfunction and wreck the work.
DeleteI think it will take years for it to be perfected. Humans make mistakes and make a work line destroyed. Robots can do tasks over and over with no issue and minimal issues.
DeleteI 100% agree Morgan, Robots are a scary thing and can cause severe amounts of damage and really hurt the employed rate.
DeleteI agree with you Morgan. Robots will make a big impact on everyones lives.
DeleteI agree with you Morgan. Robots will probably take over the job market in the next 5-10 years. That will definitely put a lot of people out of a job and there will be more poverty because of that. Also, robots having more control leaves a lot of people on edge, creating trust issues between the creators and everyday people.
ReplyDeleteFor sure in the near future there will be a high percent of job loss. When I look for my job, I'm sure there will be robots helping or working on something. The employment rate will definitely go down within the next 10 years.
ReplyDeleteHunter I agree with you I for sure think their will be robots in almost every job in the near future and their probably will be a drop in the employment rate
DeleteI think that robotic workers can be useful. More efficient work can be done with less error, robots can work 24 hour days, and can take care of many jobs that people do not want, or even can't do. On the other-hand, mass amounts of robotic workers could have a negative effect on the work force, as an increasing population of people are left with less and less jobs to support themselves. I think that an automated work force can be extremely useful, it will just reinforce the need for people to attend universities as to find how to work these machines, and a higher educated society can focus on bettering itself.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you
DeleteI agree, eventually the only job around will be to manage machines doing work used to do.
DeleteI think that robots are a great invention and can be used in every way. As soon as they are perfected they will never stop growing in numbers.
ReplyDeleteYou're right. When they're perfect, they aren't going to stop growing. I think robots are going to out number humans.
DeleteI believe that robots definitely will take a lot of jobs away and make the process faster and probably even better than humans but it is hard to say if or when will they mess up or do something wrong on and a human will have to go and fix or even start from scratch, I also think that humans will just have to get creative and find job's that robots are not involved in.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the fact that people need to get creative and find places robots will never take there job, instead of laying on there couch and complaining about it
Deleteya this is what i think too i do complain about robots because im a hands on redneck
DeleteI think there will be a lot more robots in the job market by the time I need to get a job. I think robots are a good invention and I think in the future there will be a lot more and they will help with a lot of things.
ReplyDeleteI personally do not want robots. I understand that they can work 24 ours a day and be less costly but if people can work as hard as they can I dont see an issue. This will make people spend more money on college. To get a college education to be a great robot mechanic is around a minimum of 4 years im guessing. i just dont think its a great plan stan
ReplyDeleteI agree to an extent, I think robots are neccisary in some spots but not others there, Stan
Deleteya it dont sound that cash money to me stan
DeleteI agree with you Bryan I don't want to have robots either, I believe people just have to put some heart in their job and work as hard as they can so they don't get replaced by a robot of some other machine
DeleteIn someways I feel like having robots would be a good thing but then again I really don't want to look for a job in the future then figure out only robots can work there or something like that.
ReplyDeletei that too layla because if there is only a job the has all robots then how are humans going to live how are they going to make money bc if they cant program then make robots there screwed
DeleteI agree especially how much more obese the world will get without people working.
DeleteI agree with you it would be a good thing and a bad thing.
Deletei firmly believe that the job world will change dramatically in the next few years and it will be harder for me to get a job. I don't like all this robot nonsense and i believe that we shouldn't invite them to take over certain jobs for humans. Once robots take over the job industry it will be pointless for kids to go to school and get an education.
ReplyDeleteyeah now thinking about it robots are taking over the only jobs tht will be left is programing the robots and making them unless they are making robots to make robots then its only programing
ReplyDeleteI agree alaina, robots are starting to take over our jobs which will make for more unemployed and homeless people in the world
DeleteThe job market is going to change a lot because they will have robots and no one is going to have a job. But people have to make robots in order for them to increase and people may not want that.
ReplyDeleteWanting to go into the computer Design Program, and or Computer Programing Field, i don't think they'll be an issue getting a job like that within the next 25-30 years so i personally think the job i want won't get over taken by technology, because it is technology.
ReplyDeleteOf course i think the job market will change if you think about it when is it not. I think technology industry will get bigger and bigger until humans wont need to work, not for a long time.
ReplyDeleteI agree Shane, of course the job world is changing, but do we really want robots to be taking over?
DeleteThe market is going to change by the time I'm choosing my career path. Most of the easy jobs will be taken by robots. I think humans working will become rarer and rarer as time goes on. There's nothing we can do about it. Robots are taking over and it's going to put humans in bad positions.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Keira how the job market is going to change a lot.
ReplyDeletei am a welder and wheni first got the job i have my shop teacher told me that im working in a job that will be totally outdone by cnc i dont think the welding industry will completly be done by cnc machines in 10 years it will be for mass producing only not things like custom welding
ReplyDeleteI think its going to be a lot harder to get jobs in the future because of robots
ReplyDeleteI agree with Evan how he said people need to be creative about what job to take in the future because of robots, you need to think where robots will not.
ReplyDeleteI think robotic works are useful. It will definitely change how i will look for a job. Jobs will change dramatically change job.
ReplyDeleteI think the use for robots will grow in the near future. But from some things that i have seen I dont necessarily want that. I have seen a robot give surgery, and from my experience surgeries arent something metal and wire should be in control of. The robot could have a shortage and injure the patient, or could of accidentally been programmed to do one thing instead of the right thing. To me robots just seem like a waste of money, taking jobs away from people, and a problem waiting to happen.
