Despite the fact that the U.S. has a very high unemployment rate, there are some career areas where there are thousands of jobs available that can't be filled. Why is this?
What can be done - who, according to the video, should have a greater role in this?
60 Minutes: "The Skills Gap"
I believe the reason for the high unemployment is because people don't have the education needed for it or they can't afford the education needed. There are many many unqualified people. I believe it should be in the hands of the manufacturers. They can provide some classes and short courses to get them in the mindset for it, then they can have workers fresh out of the class. The need for a skilled work force can drive companies to this solution and help people get an education, making them more likely to be hired.
ReplyDeleteYou are right on how they should provide free classes for these people because they wouldnt have to worry about the price and get out on the grind faster.

DeleteI disagree, because 95% of the manufacturing companies have there own training and if people would get up off their rear and work they wouldn't be saying oh poor me I don't have a job now I should live off the government. America wasn't built on baby farts and stripper glitter, so lets keep it that way and work.
Deletei disagree with you jackie it shouldnt be on the manufactures hands to put you through a class and some manufacturers do like for welding that is why im not going to college if i wanted to i could and you wont find very many places that wont give you a certification class to be a welder and it is different with everything i could teach a monkey to weld in 20 minuets but it isnt gonna be the best weld i have ever seen now things like machining in a cnc lathe or a cnc mill or a manual mill or lathe none of the education you need for that can even be taught in a month and they cant just run rampant in a shop because then a boss has a whole squad of liabilities running around a shop and shops are all rainbows and unicorns what happens when one of thos liabillities gets a finger chopped off break their arm or lose some toes what happens all the snowflakes who bashed these companies are now yelling at them because this boss couldnt lose any more money an these education classes

DeleteI think one solution for this problem is lower priced, or even free education. More and more every day jobs are in need of trained, educated workers. When a class that can't afford to work because the jobs they once occupied are now run by machines, they can't afford an education to learn a new skill, such as running and maintaining those machines. If education was paid for, we would be able to fill the job gap with more educated workers.

DeleteThe reason for high unemployment is because people are lazy and don't know what hard work is, and they don't want to go to school, and they live in their parents basement for the rest of their lives, so I think that either their parents should get these people together or you get yourself together and go and get a real job and do something with your life.

DeleteThis is a very large part of it, some people don't want to work for what they have. I see a lack of higher education or ways to receive it as our main problem, but work ethic is also extremely important.

DeleteThe reason people wont work is because they either think they don't have the skills to do it or the just don't care. But if these people got the education they woud probly be happy to get a pay check.

ReplyDeleteThe reason why our employment rate is so high is because people don't want to do the work and don't know what how lazy they are actually being. People don't want to go to college to get an actual job, so they end up being poor and not having any money. I think that for getting a lower educated job should require more so people don't have a choice on their education.
Many people don't have a choice over their education simply because they can't afford it. Our government should be less focused on giving money to businesses to train workers and more focused on funding colleges to make higher education cheaper to the masses.

The solution to this is Companies should take advantage of this and help people with the education and the skills, this is an opportunity for companies to make more money and have a better company.

ReplyDeleteI think there are many reasons for unemployment. Some people are lazy and don't want to take the time to find a job and go through all the steps of getting a job. Some people couldn't afford the education to get that specific job. I think there should be free classes for the people who really want a job are passionate about having a job.

DeleteThe unemployment rate is low. People do jobs and get a degree for a job they want to do and working in a factory isn't always that.
ReplyDeleteUnemployment rate is high because teens coming out of high school and going into college can't afford college. Many of the really challenging jobs aren't taking because college is so expensive.

People should want to work to get money and food on their plate, In the 60 minutes video I like how that one business had free classes to learn how the job would be and how to use the equipment if they applied for that job.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you partly shane, but some homeless people arent necessarily "clean" or up to the standards that a lot of business or companies expect from their workers. A lot of them do try to fix their lives but just aren't able to and need help from people like us to make them be able to get a job
DeleteI see a lot of really young kids with phones, I think its stupid to give your kid a phone at the age of 9 or somewhere around that age. I don't think kids should have a phone until their 13-14.

ReplyDeleteI think the unemployment rate is so high because of things like food stamps, or parents being too soft on their children. Also schooling after high school is very expensive and some people will never be able to afford things like that. But even if college wasn't as expensive, no one would try for anything or everyone would be on the same level and that isn't how it should be. But I do think laziness is the case for a lot of people
